All the hype

"Episcopal DNA"

Just as every plant and animal has characteristics "baked into" its nature by its DNA, every organization has qualities that are distinct, basic, and sometimes invisible to the members of the organization.

So—what are the essential basics "baked into" St. Matthew's and other Episcopal Churches, things that really define us? It's complex. We have a deep sense of our history, yet we are very concerned about modern issues such as immigration reform, rights for sexual minorities, and protecting the environment. Our liturgy reflects our sense of the holy, but we are willing to laugh at ourselves.

Our Presiding Bishop has called us the "Episcopal branch of Jesus' movement in this world," but we welcome all Christian believers and we are convinced that people of other faiths deserve our respect.

We're an odd mix: traditions and practices that go back through the centuries and a concern with the world that is is recent as this morning's news.
